Extension coordinators and project leaders from the different campuses and colleges in West Visayas State University completed a two-day Seminar Workshop on Photo Documentation, Captioning and IEC Materials Development held last May 27, 2016 at the Center for Teaching Excellence. The training is one of the capability building trainings lined up by the University Extension and Development Center for the continuing education and skills upgrading of its university extension workers.
The Gender and Development Office of West Visayas State University sponsored an Orientation on Gender Laws for Non-Teaching Staff last May 27, 2016 at the WVSU Hometel. The activity aimed to enhance the participants' knowledge and awareness regarding the following gender and development laws: (1) Anti-Sexual Harassment Law; (2) Expanded Maternity Law and Paternity Law; (3) Magna Carta for Women; (4) VAWCI Act of 2004 and (5) Other Related Concerns and Gender Sensitive Laws.
Dr. Nancy S. Surmieda, GAD Supervising Officer gave an overview of the activity while Prof. Jeanette Simpas moderated the open forum. Mr. Christopher Montaño of the Commission on Human Rights Region 6 served as resource speaker during the orientation.
Project Buyloganay, a multi-stakeholder partnership supported by West Visayas State University- University Extension and Development Center recently produced their first batch of scholars who have successfully completed Lifelong Learning for Self-Sufficiency Program's Basic Dressmaking Course. Sixteen participants composed of senior citizens and young women from Barangay Inangayan received their certificate of completion during simple graduation rites held at Brgy. Inangayan Hall last April 14, 2016. Among those present during the graduation rites were Mr. Francisco Sumagaysay of BISCA and USSFI, Mayor Dennis Superficial, PSWDO Emma Ledesma, Hon. Demy Sonza, and Dr. Noeni S. Nepomuceno of WVSU-UEDC. With the assistance of project stakeholders, the group is set to embark on the enterprise phase of the project.
PCAARRD, one of West Visayas State University's active partners in joint R&D, human resource development and technical assistance in the areas of agriculture, aquatic and natural resources (AANR) conducted a successful, three-day SIPAG FIESTA (Strategic Industry S&T Program for Agri-Aqua Growth- Farms and Industry Encounters through the Science and Technology Agenda) last March 2-4, 2016 at PCAARRD Grounds in Los Banos, Laguna. The event showcased and celebrated the best of R&D initiatives from 2010-2016 by PCAARRD stakeholders, partners and consortia. WESVAARRDEC, the AANR consortium hosted by West Visayas State University was one of the exhibitors-participants during the said event.
One of the highlights of SIPAG FIESTA was the blessing and launching of the DOST-PCAARRD Innovation and Technology Center (DPITC), a "one-stop-shop and convergence hub" that provides services for investors and technology users in the agriculture and aquatic sectors in the Philippines.

Another highlight of the event was the SIPAG ni Juan Exhibit which is a permanent installation (interactive posters, dioramas, live aquatic specimens in aquariums, etc) of DOST-PCAARRD supported technologies and breakthroughs on Strategic Industry S&T Program on Agri-Aqua Growth (SIPAG) generated by R&D researchers from all over the country featuring outdoor display of live animals and plants and machinery, and techno-demonstrations of selected ISPs.
The regional consortia exhibits and bazaars also attracted a huge crowd. S&T innovations of regional priority commodities were featured for display and for sale. WESVAARRDEC featured bamboo, sugar and sago as regional commodities. Aklan State University developed sago spread and maja de sago using flour produced from sago (Metroxylon sagu Rottb.) palm.

The Municipality of Ajuy, Mirasol Flores Optical, and Knights of Columbus Visayas Jurisdiction joined hands in conducting an outreach program- medical mission in Ajuy, Iloilo last February 14, 2016. The recipients availed of free medical and optical check-ups, free medicines, reading eye glasses, and health instructions from the team of medical doctors and staff from West Visayas Medical Center and Mirasol Flores Optical. A total of 509 residents from Ajuy's thirty-four barangays were served during the medical mission.
Another medical mission is slated to be conducted in Pontevedra, Capiz on March 6, 2016.
Residents of Ajuy, Iloilo will be receiving a lot of love on Sunday, February 14, 2016 thanks to a medical mission to be facilitated by the University Extension and Development Center (UEDC) in cooperation with the Municipality of Ajuy and Knights of Columbus Visayas Jurisdiction. The activity will be held at the Hon Ramon M. Rojas Jr. Memorial and a total of one thousand beneficiaries from the municipality will avail of free health services to be provided by West Visayas State University's College of Medicine, College of Nursing and Medical Center. The medical mission is an extension activity under the Health and Disease Management component of WVSU HELPs-Build Resilient Communities Program Framework. Ajuy is a second class coastal municipality located 74 km northeast of Iloilo City.
The Lifelong Learning for Self-Sufficiency Training Program (LLSSP) is the highlight of University Extension and Development Center's trade and agricultural exhibit which opens today at the IICT grounds of WVSU main campus.The exhibit is part of WVSU's University Week celebration which runs from January 27-30, 2016 with the theme "WVSU SHINES (Serve, Harmonize, Innovate, Nurture, Excel, Share). LLSSP is a skills training program of UEDC that caters to the needs of out-of-school youth, unemployed, underemployed, housewives and professionals who want to develop their skills. The public is invited to visit the exhibit to learn more about the center's programs, projects and initiatives.

In its bid to strengthen the monitoring and evaluation component of the university in the implementation of its extension mandate, the University Extension and Development Office (UEDC) conducted the two-day activity for extension coordinators and project leaders from nine colleges in the main campus and five external campuses. During the first day of the workshop, the participants presented the performance of their respective extension programs and projects as well as budget allocation and fund utilization. The second day of the workshop was solely devoted to the crafting of the 2016 extension work and financial plan to be implemented by the participants.
Dr. Ma. Lulu L. Loyola, Dr.Ricky P. Becodo and Dr. Bernabe B. Cocjin served as evaluators during the output presentation and critiquing. The consolidated output of the workshop will serve as basis for implementing new programs in 2016 and for efficient monitoring of project funds and effective allocation of resources for extension projects.
