Field Notes: Darag native chicken farms in Panay

Darag Chicken Farms are sprouting in Panay thanks to the continuing advocacy of West Visayas State University to promote the benefits and advantages of Darag chicken raising for food sustainability and profitability.
Glenda Basa, chairperson of Danao Adcom Association in Ajuy, Iloilo is one of the recipients of Darag chicken individual expansion project under ADRA (Adventist Development  and Relief Agency) and Global Affairs Canada (GAC). She started with starter kit of Darag chicken family unit consisting of 1 rooster and 5 hens. Glenda's backyard raised chickens have helped her family financially.  She sells ready to lay chickens, eggs and day/week old chicks. 

Johnnar Tayo-Tipo of Jezra Darag Farms is a balikbayan who is  raising Darag chickens in his family's homestead 2.2 hectare farm. He sells  breeder chickens and eggs to fellow darag raisers and start-up agripreneurs.

Lynnie Furog,  a member of BRADSCOM (Barredo ADRA Community Savings and Management Association) in Ajuy, Iloilo is another recipient of Individual Expansion for Darag native chicken in Ajuy, Iloilo. She has grown to love and enjoy raising Darag native chickens and considers it a passion.
