The University Extension and Development Center conducted a Situational Analysis Training and Writeshop for faculty-extensionists on May 8-10, 2024 at Smallville 21, Iloilo City. The goal of the training was to provide the participants with the expertise and understanding necessary to perform meaningful research for extension programs. Ms. Rosario P. Panganiban, a Gender and Development (GAD) consultant led a discussion on the utilization of GAD in situation analysis and provided tools for data collection. The training was well received by the participants who committed to deepen their understanding of the communities they serve.
WESVAARDEC-West Visayas State University Base agency joined Visayas Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Program (VICARP), and Central Visayas Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (CVAARRDEC) in Baybay, Leyte for DOST-PCAARRD's Root Crops FIESTA (Farmers and Industry Encounters through Science and Technology Agenda) with the theme "Sustainable and Effective Solutions for Climate Change, Urbanization, Research, Economic, and Development (SECURED)".
Hosted by Visayas State University (VSU), the two-day event held last April 24-25, 2024 at VSU RDE Hall showcased root crops R&D technological outputs of Visayan cluster consortia member agencies.
Technology generators, farmers, investors, entrepreneurs, students, and key officials of DOST-PCAARRD and regional consortia gathered to highlight the technological and commercial importance and potential of root crops through food product displays, root crop machine and process exhibits, plenary sessions, cooking demonstrations, and technology pitching. Representatives from WESVARRDEC-WVSU Base Agency had a productive exchange of generated technology and knowledge with their counterparts from VICARP and CVAARRDEC. Root Crops FIESTA is one of the initiatives of the Department of Science and Technolgy- Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development in assisting regional R&D efforts in agriculture, forestry and natural resources. Through initiatives such as Root Crops FIESTA, farmers and technology adopters are actively encouraged to engage in sweet potato, yam and cassava farming as the economic future for these commodities are projected to have robust growth especially in Eastern Visayas.
The 17-man delegation of Bataan Peninsula State University- Extension and Training Services Office (BPSU-ETSO) visited University Extension and Development Center (UEDC) last March 13, 2024 to benchmark West Visayas State University’s extension services. Dr. Ricky P. Becodo, UEDC Director welcomed the delegates during a benchmarking activity program held at the 4/F, Research & Extension Bldg I. The UEDC presented its programs and services as well as best practices after which a lively open forum capped the activity. The delegates later paid a courtesy call to WVSU University President Dr. Joselito F. Villaruz.

The College of Education (COE) initiated the conduct of an extension orientation for its faculty members on March 4, 2024 at the Center of Teaching Excellence, WVSU Main Campus. Led by COE Dean Dr. Lorey F. Tanaleon, the activity aimed to bring clarity to the extension targets and deliverables expected of the college. Dr. Ricky P. Becodo, Director of University Extension and Development Center was tapped as resource speaker to discuss PREXC and strategic indicators as well as answer inquiries and issues related to the performance of extension activities of the college.
COE is currently implementing the following extension projects: (1) 3Ps (Pagbulig, Pagbakod, Pag-uswag) Extension Project; (2) Project KAUPOD (Embracing Diversity in Strengthening) and (3) PAGKABALAKA sa mga Manunudlo, Kabataan kag Ginikanan.
