In celebration of West Visayas State University’s 2017 University Week, the University Extension and Development Center (UEDC) is releasing an 8-minute full HD institutional promotional video entitled “Building resilient communities.” Through the video, UEDC seeks to share its vision of building resilient communities though its health, environment, livelihood and pedagogy (H.E.L.P.) extension programs implemented by WVSU’s nine colleges and five satellite campuses. UEDC is West Visayas State University’s conduit of knowledge, information, skills and research generated matured technology aimed towards improving the quality of life of disadvantaged partners in development.
To kickstart this environmental project, CAS conducted a training last November 11, 2016 for urban barangays in Iloilo City namely San Vicente, Montinola, Magsaysay, Bolilao, and Our Lady of Lourdes. Another training was held in November 12, 2016 for Brgy. Bakhaw, Mandurriao and Brgys. Calubihan and Cuartero in Jaro. Both trainings were held at the Accreditation Room,Quezon Hall in West Visayas State University.
Serving as resource speaker was Ms. Mitzi S. Peñaflorida, Senior Environment Management Specialist and Provincial Solid Waste Management Coordinator of PENRO-LGU, Province of Iloilo.
One of the highlights of 2016 is the inauguration of West Visayas State University's new four-storey Research and Extension Building (Benigno Aquino Hall). To mark the event, a ribbon cutting and unveiling of marker ceremony was held last October 30, 2016 and was attended by university officials headed by Dr. Luis M. Sorolla. Prior to the ceremony, a holy mass celebrated by Rev. Fr. Joel Eslabra was held at the building's plenary hall which was also the venue of WESVARRDEC's techno forum exhibit. Immediately after the holy mass, a brief groundbreaking ceremony of WVSU's Science Research Building was held adjacent to the new building. The Science Research Building is poised to be constructed in the upcoming months and will exclusively house the university's various laboratories and innovation facilities.

Book launching of DAGAYA: Success Stories of WVSU's Extension and Development Projects |
The University Extension and Development Center conducted a capability building activity entitled "Training Workshop on Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) for WVSU Extension Implementers" last September 27-28, 2016 at Diversion 21 Hotel, Iloilo City. The training workshop was attended by 40 participants composed of college deans, campus administrators, department directors, extension coordinators and heads of research and extension offices from external campuses.
During the first day of the training, Ms. Erlinda Chiu, Division Chief of the Project Monitoring and Evaluation Division of NEDA Region 6 discussed Monitoring, Evaluation and Development Results in the Project Development Cycle and the Definition, Difference and Complementarities in M&E. Meanwhile, Ms. Joy Tigres, Senior Economic Development Specialist discussed The M&E Work Plan and Work and Financial Plan. Short workshops were conducted in-between sessions.
During the second day, Engr.Alex Aquio, Supervising Economic Development Specialist discussed the Conduct of Field Monitoring and Problem-Solving Session and Georeferencing (how to interface training photos taken from the field into Google Earth). After the training, the UEDC will seek to create an M&E training manual that will streamline the M&E activities of the center.
