Cookie Baking with Special Kids, Special Folks

The WVSU- College of Medicine (COM) conducted a special Valentine activity entitled "Sweet Special Gifts" as a part of its "Special Kids, Special Folks" extension program to assist the health and social needs of Maasin CES SPED Center Transition Class pupils.  Extension Coordinator Dr. Gregorio Anastacio Rufon, Jr. with the assistance of UEDC's Lifelong Learning for Self-Sufficiency  Program staff facilitated a cookie baking activity last February 13, 2018 at Maasin Elementary School which was attended by thirteen SPED pupils and their parents.

The participants learned how to make basic chocolate chip cookies which they also customized by adding other ingredients such as colored candy coated chocolate and crushed peanuts. Afterwards, they individually packaged the cookies in clear cellophane which were later sold to supportive members of the community. This activity served as a fun avenue for the pupils to have a sense of accomplishment and confidence in their newly acquired skill.
