West Visayas State University's Research and Extension Office, ITSO and GTBI joined the 2019 Regional Science and Technology Week 2019 and Regional Invention Contest and Exhibit (RICE) last October 21-25, 2019 at the Iloilo Convention Center. The back-to-back events are one of the activities of Iloilo Innovation Expo 2019 with the theme "Innovations for the Sustainable Development of Iloilo."
During the biennial DOST VI Regional Invention Contest and Exhibit (RICE), WVSU-URDC's Eduardo Gubatanga Jr., George Fredrick Roxas and Ray Arenga won 2nd-runner up in the Likha Award (Creative Research) category with their research "Mobile Lechon Manok Griller."
Government and private sector partners, students and science enthusiasts enjoyed five days of interactive exhibits, product displays, workshops and talks. The activities are part of the Innovate Iloilo movement which eyes to make Iloilo an innovation hub by 2030.
