Villaruz dreams big for WVSU as 8th University President




Dr. Joselito F. Villaruz, a pediatrician, college professor and former dean of  WVSU College of Medicine  was officially installed today as West Visayas State University's 8th University President. Villaruz was sworn in by  CHED Chairman  Dr.  J. Prospero E. De Vera during a solemn and earnest  investiture inauguration ceremony held at the newly refurbished WVSU Cultural Center. Heartfelt greetings and encouraging messages in behalf of the WVSU academic community, provincial government, SUCs and medical community were conveyed to the dynamic new president who in turn confidently shared bold dreams and plans which he aspires to fulfill during his four year term that will expire on October 15, 2023. With the help of a supportive constituency and comprehensive university management framework, he seeks to elevate WVSU to premier research university status that will not only  benefit  the Ilonggo community but the whole country as well. As a university with an illustrious and gilded past, West Visayas State University awaits to be transformed under the leadership of  Dr. Villaruz who has a strong background as academician and manager-administrator.

Aside from being the youngest dean to have served the WVSU College of Medicine, Villaruz has also served two terms as president of the Association of Philippine Medical Colleges and also serves as member of of the Technical Panel for Medical Education of the Commission on Higher Education.  He was also the recipient of  the Outstanding Professional Award in the field of Education in 2017 given by the University of the Philippines Visayas where he acquired his Master of Management: Public Management degree.
