LAMBUNAO, Iloilo – West Visayas State University-Lambunao Campus in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development 6 through the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program conducted a training for Parent Leaders (PL) as Family Development Sessions (FDS) Facilitators at the Audio Visual Room of the school in Lambunao, Iloilo.
The training “PL Na Titser Pa” was piloted to the Parent Leaders in the Municipality of Lambunao who will be instrumental in the conduct of Family Development Sessions and to augment the limited number of Municipal Link who facilitated the sessions among the beneficiaries of 4Ps.
The first session of the training was held in March 11-13, 2019 and participated by 69 participants and the second session was held in March 14-16, 2019 and 70 participants were given a chance to learn the skill in teaching.
All participants came from the Municipality of Lambunao which were composed of PLs, Civil Society Organization (CSOs), Firemen, Day Care worker, and other partner government agencies such as Philippine National Police (PNP), and Local Government Unit personnel among others.
The training was funded by DSWD Region 6 through the office of Capability Building in the amount of three hundred sixty thousand pesos for food, training materials, and transportation allowance of the participants. The Capability Building office is in-charge of monitoring the flow of the activities.
HELPs Program Leader Dr. Jaime G. Latoza developed the module for “PL Na Titser Pa” under the HELPs for 4Ps project of WVSU-LC Office of Extension and Training.
The module consists of ten lessons which are intended for the enhancement of skills of the participants which will be used in the delivery of lessons in the Family Development Sessions every month.
According to DSWD Training Specialist II Richard Dean Layon, the participants were also trained on how to facilitate and develop module on FDS based on the localized result of the development needs analysis.
“They were guided with no other done the dean, faculty and professors of the College of Education. It is a peer to peer approach on the basic tenets of teaching and module development,” said Layon, who is one of the training facilitators.
The speakers of the training were Dr. Mary Josephine C. Bautista, the head of Training and Extension Office, Mr. Clyde C. Larroder, the Campus Extension Coordinator and Dr. Jaime G. Latoza, the Program Leader. The speakers are all faculty members of the College of Education.
Furthermore, Layon said that part of the sustainability of this engagement is the assignment of the teacher from the College of Education to PL to ensure that principles of adult learning is being observed.
“Madamo gid ang amon natun-an sa training nga ini nga nagbulig gid sa amon agud ma improbar ang amon personalidad kag makabulig na kami sa amon mga Municipal Link (We learned many things out from this training that help us to improve ourselves and we can help now our Municipal Link).” said Ma. Anabelle L. Hortilano one of the Parent Leaders.
Mrs. Shella Benalber added, “We are so thankful to West Visayas State University-Lambunao Campus for facilitating this training for the parent leaders. I believe that the participants who had been trained here can help us municipal links in reaching out to the beneficiaries of 4Ps and improve their lives through FDS.”
The trained PLs are now helping the Municipal Link in the conduct of Family Development Sessions not only as listener but also as resource speakers.
