The University Extension and Development Center team composed of Extension Director Dr. Ricky Becodo and his staff Wyeth Ian Blase, Tara Mae Eleccion and Fe Seta Encontro visited a proposed literacy project site for children last March 7, 2023 in Barangay Santol, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental. Dr. Genesis Camarista, Campus Administrator of WVSU Himamaylan Campus accompanied the team.
The area is approximately 2 hectares with a small nipa hut that will serve as classroom for the children. According to Dr. Camarista, the children averaged 13 years of age do not know how to read and write or even identify the alphabet. As of the moment, Dr. Camarista dedicates his time during the weekends to teach children in surrounding community. Also present during the field visit were Genevi Geroche, Extension Coordinator and Rothsel Cabatac, Head of Research.
