As a recently created office mandated to protect WVSU's intellectual property assets for efficient management and utilization, Knowledge Technology Transfer and Business Development Center headed by Dr. Ariel Secondes spearheaded a 2-day WVSU Portfolio Audit and Inventory Workshop last July 25-26, 2024 to account existing intangible assets produced by faculty research and innovation. This activity is an initial step towards creating a strong R&D environment in the university through effective IP management.
Ring that gong! SUC Fair 2024 hosted by Western Mindanao State University in Zamboanga City was off to a spectacular start last July 9, 2024 amidst a flurry of confetti and ceremonial ringing of gong to officially open festivities, activities, competitions and bazaar exhibits for the three-day event which will culminate on July 11, 2024.
The highlight of the program was the presentation of the SUC Fair 2023 coffee table book by West Visayas State University President Dr. Joselito F. Villaruz. Dr. Villaruz turned-over to CHED the coffee table book which will serve as an enduring and tangible memento of SUC Fair 2023 hosted by WVSU in SM City Iloilo. Present during the opening ceremony were Western Mindanao State University President Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena; Dr. Rody P. Garcia, Regional Director- CHED Region IX; Dr. Raul C. Alvarez, Regional Director-CHED RO VI; Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo, Batangas State University and PASUC President; Commissioner Marita R. Canapi; Commissioner Dr. Ethel Agnes P. Valenzuela; CHED Executive Director Atty. Cinderella Filipina Benitez-Jaro and Hon. Marquez Ocampo Go, Chairperson, House Committee on Higher and Technical Education and Member House of Representatives.

West Visayas State University was a recipient of several awards from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED ROVI) during the 3rd CHED Regional Quality Awards held on May 29, 2024 at the Urdaneta Hall of University of San Agustin. The recognition activity is part of CHED's 30th anniversary and 4th Higher Education Day with the theme "Transformative and Resilient Philippine Higher Education."
The university received awards for excellence in community extension, research, internationalization initiatives, peace education as well as recognition for the provision of support to the CHED VI's endeavors and for being a model implementer of SIKAP.
Receiving the awards for WVSU were Dr. Joselito F. Villaruz (WVSU SUC President IV), Dr. Greta G. Gabinete (VP-RIE) and Dr. Ricky P. Becodo (Extension Director).
Guimaras province played host to DOST-PCCAARRD's Root Crops Fiesta Post Evaluation and Writeshop on May 13-14, 2023 at Tely's Beach House in Buenavista, Guimaras. Participants from WESVAARDEC-West Visayas State University Base Agency, Visayas Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Program (VICARP), and Central Visayas Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (CVAARRDEC) gathered to assess the recently concluded Root Crops Fiesta held in Leyte as well as participate in a writeshop for publication production.
The University Extension and Development Center conducted a Situational Analysis Training and Writeshop for faculty-extensionists on May 8-10, 2024 at Smallville 21, Iloilo City. The goal of the training was to provide the participants with the expertise and understanding necessary to perform meaningful research for extension programs. Ms. Rosario P. Panganiban, a Gender and Development (GAD) consultant led a discussion on the utilization of GAD in situation analysis and provided tools for data collection. The training was well received by the participants who committed to deepen their understanding of the communities they serve.
WESVAARDEC-West Visayas State University Base agency joined Visayas Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Program (VICARP), and Central Visayas Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (CVAARRDEC) in Baybay, Leyte for DOST-PCAARRD's Root Crops FIESTA (Farmers and Industry Encounters through Science and Technology Agenda) with the theme "Sustainable and Effective Solutions for Climate Change, Urbanization, Research, Economic, and Development (SECURED)".
Hosted by Visayas State University (VSU), the two-day event held last April 24-25, 2024 at VSU RDE Hall showcased root crops R&D technological outputs of Visayan cluster consortia member agencies.
Technology generators, farmers, investors, entrepreneurs, students, and key officials of DOST-PCAARRD and regional consortia gathered to highlight the technological and commercial importance and potential of root crops through food product displays, root crop machine and process exhibits, plenary sessions, cooking demonstrations, and technology pitching. Representatives from WESVARRDEC-WVSU Base Agency had a productive exchange of generated technology and knowledge with their counterparts from VICARP and CVAARRDEC. Root Crops FIESTA is one of the initiatives of the Department of Science and Technolgy- Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development in assisting regional R&D efforts in agriculture, forestry and natural resources. Through initiatives such as Root Crops FIESTA, farmers and technology adopters are actively encouraged to engage in sweet potato, yam and cassava farming as the economic future for these commodities are projected to have robust growth especially in Eastern Visayas.
The 17-man delegation of Bataan Peninsula State University- Extension and Training Services Office (BPSU-ETSO) visited University Extension and Development Center (UEDC) last March 13, 2024 to benchmark West Visayas State University’s extension services. Dr. Ricky P. Becodo, UEDC Director welcomed the delegates during a benchmarking activity program held at the 4/F, Research & Extension Bldg I. The UEDC presented its programs and services as well as best practices after which a lively open forum capped the activity. The delegates later paid a courtesy call to WVSU University President Dr. Joselito F. Villaruz.
