PCAARRD and DA conduct training on breeding and selection of native chickens



A training on "Organized Breeding and Selection to Ensure Quality and Productivity of Native Chickens" was jointly conducted by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD) and Bureau of Animal Industry- Department of Agriculture last July 22-23, 2019 at the Research and Extension Building in West Visayas State University. Faculty researchers and livestock technicians from state universities across the country as well as selected representatives from PADABA (Panay Darag Breeders Association) were the participants of the training.  

Leading the pool of trainers were Dr. Synan S. Baguio, OIC of Livestock Research Division of DOST-PCAARRD and Dr. Consuelo Amor S. Estrella of College of Agriculture and Food Science, UPLB who lectured on topics such as Commercial Production and Utilization of Improved Philippine Native Chickens; Understanding Local Poultry Genetic Resources; Efficient Gathering of Good Records; Native Chicken Breed Information System and Defining the Breeding Objective.

Other topics covered by the training included breeding of Banaba Native Chicken and Darag Native Chicken as well as breeding and selection strategies for poultry
