UEDC conducts COVID-19 and PPE production standards training

A one-day Training on COVID-19 and PPE Production Standards was conducted by University Extension and Development Center last June 10, 2020 at the Research and Extension Building, WVSU Main Campus. This is an initiative of West Visayas State University  in response to the growing need of local COVID and Non-Covid local hospitals for PPEs  which are in short supply due to rising global demands. The participants of the training were Gawad Kalinga (GK) Janiuay Villagers who were tapped to sew hazmat  gowns and suits.  The resource person for the activity was Dr. Zanita Glenda Plaga, faculty and extension coordinator of  WVSU College of Nursing. The first part of the training was a presentation and open forum on COVID-19 specifically its symptoms, complications, risk factors and how to avoid being infected by SARS-COV2, the novel coranavirus that causes COVID-19 .

Dr. Plaga also discussed the New Normal Act of 2020 (HB 6623)  as well as the importance of wearing face masks  in the community during the pandemic. She also emphasized the importance of wearing hazmat and PPE while treating a COVID-19 positive patient. As such, locally sewn PPEs must adhere to  medical specifications and requirements to be effective against COVID-19 contamination.  The session ended with another open forum and an interview with GK Janiuay Villagers regarding COVID-19 quarantine.
