The pandemic has forced a lot of organizations and institutions to shift their businesses and operations online. This is especially true for the academic sector where face-to-face classes have been replaced by digital learning modalities. University extension which relies heavily on community interaction is also affected by the pandemic. Given that popular social media platforms like YouTube and Facebook can enhance extension activities and build virtual communities, an online training entitled Webinar on Digital Content Creation for Extension and Development was conducted for WVSU extension coordinators and implementers to upgrade their skills in creating digital based IEC (information, education and communication) materials.
The two-day 4-hour online seminar conducted via Zoom was handled by Mr. Ernest Ian Jagorin, a popular content creator who vlogs at Ilonggo Dad Youtube channel. Jagorin is a CEO and Founder of Iloilo Condominiums and a sales manager at Megaworld Iloilo Business Park. As an Internet marketing strategist who has vast experience in digital content creation (blogging and vlogging), social media marketing and search engine optimization, he was able to impart tips, techniques and hacks on how university extension workers can use social media to enhance their extension activities.
The webinar covered topics such as digital content creation basics and history; mobile tools and apps for conceptualizing, creating and editing content as well as basic steps in digital creation. On the second day of the webinar, the participants learned how to make extension stories into interesting blog or video content.
The training seeks to be a jumping board to University Extension and Development Centers' plan to strengthen research-based IEC in 2021, focusing on digital content creation and print materials. (MCBA)
