Barangay Canauili in Janiuay, Iloilo is 13 kilometers away from town using any mode of transportation. The people there can identify different equipment such as welding machine, basic knowledge of household electrical connection and vehicles but don’t know how to properly operate or repair the equipment when it is damaged. With that, they need to bring their equipment to town or call for a technician to repair, fix or drive their vehicle which will cost them t money and time.
This barangay needed a program that will enhance their skills in operating basic equipment especially welding machine, electrical installation and driving which they will be needing in their daily lives. These needs inspired the faculty of School of Industrial Technology of West Visayas State University (WVSU)- Janiuay Campus to initiate the extension program called “TSE” (Technical Skills Enhancement) under the program WVSU-JC HELPs Janiuaynon’s and Badianganon’s. This program aims to uplift the living condition and enhance the quality of life of men and women of the adopted barangay through competitive, achievable and practical skills which are directly aligned to the demands of the job market.
This program was conceptualized by WVSU-JC School of Industrial Technology faculty headed by their project leader Mr. Elmer A. Insular and was launched in August, 2016.
